I am still pinning things like crazy that I want to do... but I know we have a few major things to get out of the way first once those keys are in our hand.
-Rip up the carpet (and hopefully discover decent hardwoods underneath)
Most of the house is carpeted right now... except the kitchen, bathroom & basement. |
I know some people like carpet... but we are big fans of hardwood. We would rather have hardwood floors and invest in some nice rugs for a few softer/more cushy areas.
- Once carpets are up, prep and make hardwoods look pretty :D
- 3 words: CHECKERBOARD KITCHEN FLOORS ... they will be in my future.
- Put extensions on the downspouts outside to keep water away from the house.
As you can see... the water is not going far from the house here. |
- Water-proof the basement by sealing the walls and staining/sealing the floors.
AND removing those awful/gross pink shelves from the wall. |
I know that is doesn't look like much now, but I have some serious plans (to be revealed at a later date) for this basement. We don't have the money to completely finish it or anything like that... but I would love to clean it up and make it brighter (and less creepy basement-y), and more functional. It's where our laundry will be located, so we'll be spending considerable amount of time in there.
Those are the things we need to do most immediately... and once I know the house is ours, I know I will be making some serious room-by-room lists of everything I want to do. We are definitely getting excited to be able to make the place our own.
Not to mention that it will be Spring when we move-in, and Zach has some serious landscaping plans up his sleeve. |
Anybody else have some serious DIY fever right now? Maybe it's an early case of Spring fever?
